Vita  -  Mano Maniak      (Stand 05-2014)     Beginn als Straßenmusiker, später in Clubs u. auf Festivals erspielt sich der Songwriter Mano Maniak schon Mitte der 70`Jahre in der „klassischen Dreierbesetzung" als Sänger, Gitarrist und Bluesharpspieler eine treue Fangemeinde - das Wort „unplugged" kannte da noch kaum einer.   Als besonders intensiv u. daher prägend erweist sich in dieser Zeit seine Zusammenarbeit mit dem Mr. Snoid-Gitarristen Wolfgang Stegbauer. Ende der 70`Jahre erscheint - ebenfalls im Duo - mit dem deutschen Folk-Urgestein Bernd Kaiser die LP „Train of Thoughts".   Nach dem Abschluß der Ausbildung an der Jazzschool Munich gibt M.M. viele Konzerte als Frontman der Bluesrockband The Spice, etwa zeitgleich tourt er auch als Leadgitarrist der Soul- und R&B-Formation Visa durch das Land. TV-Auftritte, mehrere Tourneen und eine weitere LP folgen auf den Gewinn des ZEUS-Preises 1984 unter Leitung von M.Sexauer (ARD-Musikladen).   Nach zwei längeren Reisen durch weite Teile der USA  mit Aufenthalten in NYC, Chicago, New Orleans, Nashville, Memphis, Los Angeles und San Fancisco gründet M.M. 1988 seine Band Mano Maniak & The Backbones (Horacio Cantu am Bass und Fritz Rittmüller on drums). Ihren Höhepunkt erlebt die Band 1993 mit der Live-CD „Blues in my Bones" . Das Bluesmagazin BLUES NEWS stellt diese CD als „eine der besten deutschen. Bluesscheiben" vor, der DEUTSCHE ROCKMUSIKER VERBAND e.V. lobt: „Supergeile Bluesscheibe für die Nächte, an denen die Live-Schuppen geschlossen haben!"   Ein Jahr später erscheint das Live-Album „Blues Attraction", ein vom Projekt „live im Feierwerk!" veröffentlichter Bluessampler, auf der M.M. mit drei Titeln vertreten ist.   Mitte der 90`Jahre spielt M.M. mit der amerikanischen Sängerin Christine Smith die CD „Lead into Gold" ein. Aus dieser Band entsteht mit dem gefragten Studio- und Livegitarristen Achim Göres das bis heute erfolgreiche Best Rockin´ Goodies - Duo.   Jahrelang ist M.M.  auch Mitglied der bekannten Countryband Freeway (Winner of the MARLBORO COUNTRY AWARD).   Weitere wichtige Stationen sind Auftritte mit Lousiana Red, Albert C. Humphrey, Nick Woodland, Geoff Goodman, Colin Hodgkinson, Frank Diez, Angela Brown, Free Beer & Chicken, Bluesharp Slim oder Ro Clausmann ... .   Insider der Musikszene kennen M.M. auch als „Multi-Kulti" von unzähligen Folkloreauftritten mit griechischen, türkischen, kurdischen, spanischen und südamerikanischen MusikerInnen wie bspw. Paolo Da Silva, der spanischen Sängerin Maria Pilar  und v.a. dem griechischen Sänger, Gitarristen und Bouzuki-Spieler Sakis Stratopoulos, mit dem M.M. in über 12 Jahren Zusammenarbeit über 1000 Konzerte gibt. Zusammen mit Jazz- und Ethnomusiker Geoff Goodman geben die beiden auch als Rembetiko Blues Trio in den 90er Jahren viele Konzerte auf diversen Kultur- und Musikfestivals.   1996 gründet M.M. zusammen mit dem Bluesharp-Virtuosen Hubert Hofherr das Duo-Projekt „Acoustic Blues Special", 2003 erscheint die CD „Live in der Krähenhöhle". Bis heute geben die beiden erfolgreiche Konzerte im In- und Ausland.   1999 erscheint der hochgelobte Acoustic Blues Sampler Country Blues from Munich .   Nach einer etwa 5-jährigen Schaffenspause  kehrte M.M. auf die  Livebühne zurück.   Neben vielen weiteren Konzerten mit seinem langjährigen Duopartner Hubert Hofherr wird M.M. Mitglied in der Band Pat Gifford & Friends, in der neben Hubert Hofherr auch eine alte Wegbegleiterin von M.M., die phantastische Bluessängerin und Slidegitarristin Solly Aschkar  mitwirken.   Im Nov. 2013 engagiert der hervorragende schwarze Blues- und Gospelsänger Albert C. Humphrey M.M. für seine Band Roots of Blues. Zusammen mit dem Gitarristen Charly Braun und M.M.'s Duopartner Hubert Hofherr spielt das Quartett die CD „Suitcase Full of Blues" ein und ist seit Frühjahr 2014 auf Tour.        

VITA Mano Maniak   The singer/songwriter Mano Maniak began his musical career in the mid 1970’s as a street musician, and later played in clubs and at festivals.  With the classic formation “singer, guitarist, and blues harp player” he built a loyal following.  In those days hardly anybody knew the word “unplugged.” As a result of this long experience playing as a "One-Man-Trio" the German press describes Mano's musical work on stage with the following words: "Without any effort, he is able to replace bass and drums, while he is playing brilliant solos. He is one of the best German blues players. And his expressive voice is rough and tender in the same moment!"   Especially intensive and also formative during these years was Mano’s collaboration with “Mr. Snoid” guitarist Wolfgang Stegbauer.  In the late 1970’s Mano recorded – also as a duo - an LP titled “Train of Thoughts” with the German folk veteran Bernd Kaiser.   After his training at JAZZ SCHOOL MUNICH, Mano performed many concerts as frontman of the bluesrock band The Spice.  At about the same time he toured Germany as lead guitarist for the soul and R & B lineup Visa.  TV appearances, several tours and another LP followed after winning the ZEUS-Prize in 1984 under the direction of M. Sexauer (TV: "ARD-Musikladen")   After two long trips through large parts of the U.S., with stays in NYC, Chicago, New Orleans, Nashville, Memphis, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, in 1988 Mano founded his band Mano Maniak & The Backbones (with Horacio Cantu on bass, Fritz Rittmüller on drums and Tony Ramos on harp). The band reached a climax in 1993 with the live CD "Blues In My Bones".  The blues magazine BLUES NEWS declared this CD as "one of the best German blues records.”   And the GERMAN ROCK MUSICIANS ASSOCIATION praised: "Awesome blues disc for the nights when the live joints are closed!"   A year later the live album "Blues Attraction" was completed, a project published by "Live im Feierwerk!", on which Mano Maniak & The Backbones are represented with three titles.   In the Mid 90’s, Mano played with the American singer Christine Smith and recorded the CD "Lead into Gold". Out of this band emerged the still successful duo Best Rockin’ Goodies,  with the much-sought-after studio and live guitarist Achim Göres.   For years, Mano was also a member of the popular country band Freeway with Liane Simon (winner of the MARLBORO COUNTRY AWARD).   Other important milestones along the way were performances with Louisiana Red, Albert C. Humphrey, Nick Woodland, Rüdiger Helbig, Vince Weber, Geoff Goodman, Colin Hodgkinson, Frank Diez, Angela Brown, Free Beer & Chicken, Blues Harp Slim and  Ro Clausman ...   Insiders of the music scene also know Mano Maniak as "multicultural." He has delivered countless folk performances with Greek, Turkish, Kurdish, Spanish and South American musicians, such as Paolo Da Silva, the Spanish singer Maria Pilar and, among others, the Greek singer, guitarist and bouzuki player Sakis Stratopoulos, with whom Mano gave over 1,000 concerts over 12 years.  Along with the famous jazz and ethno multi-instrumentalist Geoff Goodman,  they performed in the 90’s as the Rembetiko Blues Trio, playing many concerts at a variety of cultural and music festivals.  During these years Mano and Geoff Goodman were on tour also as a duo with their "Blues & More - Project". In 1996, Mano established with the bluesharp virtuoso Hubert Hofherr the Duo-Project Mano Maniak & Hubert Hofherr, performing an "Acoustic Blues Special."  In 2003, they released their CD "Live in der Krähenhöhle”.  The two musicians continue to perform successful concerts both at home and abroad. In 1999, the highly acclaimed acoustic blues sampler “Country Blues from Munich” was released, on which Mano plays two wonderful country blues songs as a solo-artist.   After about a 5-year hiatus, Mano returned back to the live stage.   In addition to many other concerts with his longtime duo partner Hubert Hofherr, Mano is now a member of the band Pat Gifford & Friends, where in addition to Hubert, Mano plays on stage beside another old companion, the fantastic blues singer and slide guitarist Solly Aschkar.   In Nov. 2013 the excellent and well known blues & gospel Singer Albert C. Humphrey recruited Mano for his band Roots of Blues.  Together with the guitarist Charly Brown and Mano’s duo partner Hubert Hofherr, the quartet recorded the CD "Suitcase Full of Blues" and has been on tour since the spring of 2014.
